Dux Fast Fit Bottle Trap 32mm Short inlet bottle P - BP32

Model: BP32

Dux traps are an essential element to the plumbing of every bathroom and kitchen. They are suitable for connection to polypropylene, unplasticised PVC pipe and copper tube.

Dux traps are an essential element to the plumbing of every bathroom and kitchen. They are suitable for connection to polypropylene, unplasticised PVC pipe and copper tube.

Traps are designed to maintain a waterseal under normal operating conditions. This waterseal prevents the foul air from the main sewer line entering the building.

Dux traps are polypropylene, a durable material offering rigidity and strength retention at high temperatures. They can be sterilised by steam and in the absence of stress withstand up to 150°C. Polypropylene’s excellent chemical resistance characteristics make them ideal for domestic waste systems as well as hospitals, laboratories, food processing factories and most industrial and commercial applications.

The Superiority of the DUX "Fast Fit" Waste System:

The Dux "Fast Fit" polypropylene waste system offers all the advantages inherent in polypropylene - rigidity, mechanical strength retention at high temperatures and excellent chemical resistance - making it your best choice for commercial and domestic waste systems.
Dux traps and fittings are injection moulded, ensuring complete uniformity of wall thickness, accurate product dimensions and smooth bore.
In addition to normal domestic applications, Dux polypropylene waste systems are particularly suitable for hospitals, laboratories, food processing factories and most other industrial plants.
By virtue of the high softening point of the material Dux "Fast Fit" pipe fittings can be repeatedly sterilised by steam and in the absence of stress can withstand temperatures of up to 150°C (300°F).
Dux pipe and fittings are generally available in white.
All compression and sealing rings are moulded from Acrylonitrile. Acrylonitrile is not affected by soap, detergents or fats.
The Dux Double Taper Compression Ring provides double holding power. Pipes cannot drop out of fittings if not properly tightened. NZ Patent Appln 159592.
An independent test conclusively proved the superiority of the Double Taper Compression Ring. The holding power of the Double Taper Ring exceeded the conventional Single Taper Ring by over 50% under all test conditions.

Fittings:

All Dux Double Taper compression fittings are suitable for connection to polypropylene waste pipe, Unplasticised PVC waste pipe, or copper tube of the same nominal size. When connecting to copper tube it is recommended that the end of the tube is slightly flared with a drift to ensure a snug fit in the polypropylene fittings.

NOTE: Strapping (PVC) available in coils 16mm x 30mm (coil).

The Superiority of Polypropylene:

Polypropylene is an oldourless non-toxic thermo plastic material. Its major superiority lies in its retention of mechanical strength at temperatures ranging from -14°C (7°F) to as high as 150°C (300°F).

Most of its various properties stem from this central fact.

Mechanical Properties:

Polypropylene is the lighteest of all the commercial thermo plastics, with a specific gravity of 0.90. Despite its lightness, it is rigid and tough with high surface gloss, hardness and resistance to abrasion. At room temperature the impact strength of polypropylene is similar to that of rigid PVC but with increases in temperature its impact strength improves until at over 40°C (104°F) it becomes practically unbreakable. At temperatures below 0°C (32°F) impact resistance is reduced. Polypropylene has excellent dimensional stability and resistance to creep even at high temperatures and in this respect, it is superior to most other thermo plastics.

Temperature Resistance:

As already indicated exceptional resistance to heat is a notable property of polypropylene. It is one of the most heat resistant thermo plastics, having a crystalline melting point of 168°C (335°F) and a softening point of 145°C to 150°C (293° to 300°F). Articles made from it can be sterilised in boiling water. Indeed, polypropylene is now extensively used for medical and hygenic equipment where there is need for extremes of sterilisation. In the absence of external mechanical stress, articles will retain their shape even when exposed to temperatures of 150°C (300°F). At 100°C (112°F) the yield stress is approx 30 to 40% of that at room temperature.

Chemical Resistance:

A detailed chemical resistance chart is available. Polypropylene is very resistant to inorganic re-agents including water, most alkalis and mineral acids (even when concentrated) and is appreciably affected only by highly oxidising reagents such as chlorsulphonic acid, 100% oleum and fuming nitric acid. Resistance to common reagents such as sulphuric acid, nitric acid, hydorchloric acid and caustic soda is excellent, even at high temperatures where other thermo plastics such as PVC and polyethylene cannot be employed. Up to 100°C (212°F) it can be used with 80% sulphuric acid or concentrated hydrochloric acid. Polypropylene has very high resistance to most organic chemicals but some absorption may take place particularly at elevated tempratures. It should be noted that climated hydro carbons and non-polar liquids, such as benzene, are absorbed to a much greater extent that polar liquids, such as acetone. A point of considerable practical importance is that polypropylene, unlike polythene, shows no tendency to fail by environmental stress cracking. For continuous outdoor exposure, protection against ultra-violent light is necessary. Black coloured polypropylene is suitable for this purpose.

Electrical Properties:

Polypropylene has good dielectric properties over a wide range of ambient conditions.

Fabrication:

Polypropylene cannot be solvent cement joined as there is no satisfactory solvent. Satisfactory methods of fabrication include heat fusion welding, threading and compression joints. Heat fusion welding requires a high degree of skill and considerable practice to obtain satisfactory joints and is therefore not generally recommended. When considering the suitability of threaded joints it should be borne in mind that, as with all plastics the cutting of the thread seriously reduces the strength of the pipe. It is therefore necessary to ensure that the pipe to be threaded has sufficient wall thickness to overcome this problem. Compression joints are possible the most satisfactory method of joining, particularly where the pipe is not operating under pressure. Compression joints have the added advantage of ease of access for maintenance or alterations.

Expansion:

In common with all thermo plastics thermal expansion of polypropylene is much greater than for metals and provision must be made for the pipe to move. The expansion rate of polypropylene is greater in the temperature range above 60°C (140°F) than in the range 0° to 60°C (32° to 140°F) and calculations of likely expansion should take this factor into account. Approximate expansion of a Dux "Fast Fit" waste system may be calculated as follows:

  1. For temperatures between 0°C and 60°C (32° to 140°F) a 100 ft. (30.5 metre) run of polypropylene pipe expands 1.32" (33.5mm) per 10°C or 0.73" (18.5 mm) per 10°F temperature rise.
  2. For temperatures above 60°C (140°F) a 100 ft. (30.5 metres) run expands 2.04" (51.8mm) per 10°C or 1.13" (28.7mm) per 10°F temperature rise.
